Book Description: I had an excuse two years ago when I met her on campus. She interviewed me for a story on major league baseball’s rising stars, and we shared a hot, passionate night that ended far too soon, and without a mention of who her father was. Now I know the innocent but sexy woman I can’t stop thinking about is the coach’s daughter. That means her dad is the guy who determines if I bat fourth in the starting lineup in every game, or ride the bench.
All the more reason to resist alluring, confident, brainy Reese every time I run into the reporter-turned-sports publicist. That ought to be easy enough, until the time she confesses she’s still carrying her V card, and she’s been wanting me to cash it in since the day we met. Staying away from her is going to be harder than resisting a fastball down the middle. Especially since I’m pretty sure she’s the one who got away, and letting her slip through my fingers again would be a rookie mistake.

My Review (w/spoilers):

Holden & Reese

This is book two in Lauren Blakely’s Rules of Love series. AKA her Virgin series. Right off the bat I have to say that I liked this story more than the first book The Virgin Rule Book. I really liked Crosby in book one, he was a good book boyfriend. But I like the premise of this story so much more.

We first meet Holden in Crosby’s book. Crosby says he a good guy that is having trouble with the press. It doesn’t help he was traded to a team with a really bad reputation. Mrs. Blakely does a really good job of overlapping these stories and not overdoing it or mixing up events.

The way I see it, preparation is about respect. Respect for the game, respect for the woman, and respect for yourself.” -hOLDEN

I liked that Holden and Reese were drawn together from the second they met and even though they weren’t looking for a relationship, at all, they just listened to their instincts. They had a really cute meet-cute.

I was sad that they couldn’t get their HEA after their first meeting, but I really liked that Reese chose her career and even though Holden was sad, he supported her.

I also liked that their reunion didn’t seem unrealistic. With the people she’s friends with and her job, it made sense that they would run in to each other. I thought it was cute that they both thought they were hallucinating when they saw one another.

“I’ve never had a kiss like this before, one that reverberates in my marrow, that scrambles every thought. It’s a kiss that doesn’t stop.” -rEESE

Reese was a confident woman who knew what she wanted in life, in a relationship and in the bedroom. Even if she was a virgin. I really liked her. I actually related to her in a lot of ways. I was proud of her when she finally talked to her dad it was nice that that relationship began its healing.

Holden has become one of my favorite book boyfriends. Just a solid guy with good morals, and as he said “A gentleman, but not always a gentleman” 😉.

I really enjoyed reading this story and will definitely read it again!

Now off to the next book in the series— The Virgin Replay! Chance and Grant’s sister; Sierra’s story.

This is book 2 out of 4 in the Rules of Loves Series. It is however, a standalone.

Previous Book: The Virgin Rule Book

Next Book: The Virgin Replay
