Book Description: I never thought I’d achieve my dream of playing for the NHL— Not while I’m my mom’s sole caretaker. But the Carolina Reapers offer me a deal I can’t refuse: A spot on their roster and top-rated support for my mom’s battle with Parkinson’s. Balancing an NHL schedule and my mother’s care fills every minute of my day, But one glance at Scythe’s bartender, and I’m looking for ways to make time. Echo Hayes is my exact opposite: she’s wild—I’m reserved. She’s fearless—I’m careful. She’s a 1 a.m. last call, and I’m a 7 a.m. practice. On paper, we shouldn’t work. But in reality, our chemistry burns hotter than these Charleston nights. We’ve agreed to no-strings, But every taste leaves me wanting more. And more is where she draws the line. The past haunts her, and my obligations own my present. But it doesn’t stop me from wanting a future with her. Our worlds are drastically different— And when they collide? The fallout jeopardizes my contract, and puts our hearts on the line. Now I’m the one begging her to risk it all— Or we’ll lose everything worth fighting for.

My Goodreads Review (No Spoilers)

My Review (w/spoilers):

Sawyer is a caring, nice guy, with soft edges. Echo is a badass with a dark past and hard edges.

Their schedules are the complete opposites, they really couldn’t be more different. But they are drawn to each other and it’s quite beautiful.

The truth or dare scene?! COME ON! That was so sexy… I can’t believe he actually picked her up and walked her to the back room. Shout out to Connell. Without that goofball, they would’ve kept trying to hide what they both wanted. And when they walked out, and all the girls were yelling their rating of the kiss. So cute! Of course, the moment was killed when her piece of shit ex showed up. But the whole scene was fun and cute, I liked them all interacting.

She was a master at hiding her feelings. I pretty much wore my heart on my sleeve.” -Sawyer

It was really sweet that Echo would message him random facts to distract him. She could tell he was having a hard time, and her silly texts about Captain Crunch and animals helped him.

I really like Annabelle. She took Echo back, after everything she did, that’s a real friend. I like that she reminded her of who she was and told her when she was being an idiot, like a real best friend. I also liked it when we saw Annabelle and Connell meet.

Sawyer really is a good guy. I loved when he told her that he wasn’t afraid of her or he past. Then he proceeded to carry her upstairs, draw her a bath, strip her down and help her into a warm bubble bath-her favorite. Then he joined her and said the sweetest things *SWOON* (Not to mention, this is when Echo gets pregnant *waggles eyebrows*

The love? That’s more powerful than any grief. Even if it’s just the memory of it.” -Sawyer

Her ex’s name is Chad… I’ve only met one nice Chad in my life. It’s like they’re born with a neon sign that blinks *I’M A DOUCHE*. And boy was he… The whole, lets slip cocaine into Sawyers jacket –jacked! Seriously, what a prick. Thank goodness for Cannon! The asshole/bad boy is really a nice guy. Of course.

I loved when Lukas and Axel showed up to the hospital when Sawyer didn’t answer his phone; “Apparently you three have a tracking app since something she referred to as the spring break incident of sophomore year, and since Harper has her nose in the lab, Faith tracked you for me.” Good stuff.

“The woman liked to fight her own battles. Got it.” -Sawyer

The epilogue was really cute. Poor Sawyer was trying to help Echo so much, but she was the one who was comforting him. (Something that seems to happen a lot.) And when he gets in the car and he laid on the horn in a succession of honks. “Lukas worked that out with me a few weeks ago. So anyone home would know it was happening.” So adorable.

Altogether, another great one from Samantha Whiskey. I can’t wait to see their story progress and to read about Connell’s and Annabelle’s story in the next book!

“Everything, Sawyer,” I whispered. “You’re everything.” -Echo

UPDATE: What we find out in Connell’s story, is that Echo and Sawyer actually get married right before the baby comes. Echo wants to be married before the baby comes, so they do, in the hospital.
